Good reasons
February 7th, 2006
I’ve been wondering recently about the why I’m blogging. Why am I spending my time doing this? Is it just an effort to get more attention? Or can it be a tool for my own personal development, perhaps eventually becoming a tool that could help others? Could I legitimately call it part of my ILP? Or maybe I’m the tool.
Well, today Steve Pavlina published a blog entry which helped me get closer to an answer (or at least an excuse) for myself.
Here’s the first couple of sentences from his typically long but informative post:
When I started this site 16 months ago, my goal was to help people with their personal development. And based on the thousands of pieces feedback I’ve received since then, that expectation is certainly being realized. However, what I wasn’t fully prepared for was the massive amount of personal growth I would experience as a result of this decision. I expected there would be a symbiotic relationship that would provide additional fuel for my own growth, but the effect was far greater than I imagined. Consequently, I now believe that blogging may be one of the best tools for personal growth. (Bolding mine)
He has a long list of reasons, to which Mel added his two cents. I don’t plan to follow Pavilna and try to become a personal development guru, but I really admire what he stands for and what he’s accomplished. I definitely like the idea of using blogging as a tool for growth, but I wouldn’t have been able to offer that as a legitimate reason before reading the Stevester’s blog entry today.
