About

Deep Surface is a software organization. It builds Group Archive, a private space for a family’s stories.

What we care about

Most software that holds personal history treats it as engagement material. The archive exists to be scrolled, ranked, and monetised, and the people in it are the product. We think family history deserves the opposite treatment: private by default, invitation-only, and worth nothing to anyone who was not invited.

That belief shows up in the architecture, not just the marketing. In Group Archive the stories, people, and media live in a content layer that is deliberately separate from the application that displays them. If the app is replaced – by us, or by whoever comes after us – the content is unaffected. Software written today should not be the thing that decides whether a family’s records survive.

How we work

Small, deliberate, and slow where slowness is the point. We would rather ship one product that a family trusts with forty years of photographs than several that nobody does.
